ExpertsConnect EP. 6: Considerations for data privacy in a digital age

Summary:

Did you know that your personal information is not secure online? In fact, one study suggests that every two (2) seconds someone becomes a victim of identity theft. More specifically, the Identity Theft Resource Center in their 2019 report, revealed that there were 164,683,455 sensitive records (e.g., email and mailing addresses, social security numbers, passwords, bank and credit card information, as well as other highly sensitive data) exposed in the United States.

In this episode of ExpertsConnect, we had a conversation concerning the Considerations for data privacy in a digital age with Mr. Niel Harper (CISO, CIO), Chief Information Security Officer at the United Nations Office for Project Services and Founder and Chairman of Octave Consulting Group.

Our discussion points included the following topics.

  1. The current top 5 cyber threats that we as netizens (i.e. active users of the Internet) should be aware of.
  2. The risks associated with using public Wifi.
  3. The security risks of using social media or Google.
  4. The hidden security risks of using Tiktok and Facebook.
  5. The best ways to protect our privacy online.

One relevant point arising from the discussion was the need to safeguard mobile devices from cyber attacks. To satisfy your online safety needs, feel free to purchase your Norton 360 Deluxe antivirus software for up to 5 devices here
